Sean Slayer once said, "The weirdest thing that happens around here is a car full of colored people driving through." Well, this is definitely something weird.

The story still doesn't even have an ending, but it all started out on Tuesday, June 5, 2001, when the New York State Ontario County Sheriff's Office and Ontario County Humane Society were dispatched to Sandy Bottom Park (the beach) in Honeoye by a person who reported finding a dead cat tied to a concrete block underwater. It had apparently been there for some time.

From then on there were no leads, of course. I mean if you knew your friend drowned a cat would you run straight to the police with your information? Probably not. But what if there was $1,000 at stake? Would that maybe pursuade you to break your silence? A guy by the name of Paul Dewey hoped so.

Paul Dewey runs an Internet business called This Old Cat and decided to put up the thousand dollar reward, hoping that it would get people talking. He distributed fliers everywhere throughout town. He even posted three at J&S Conveyors, knowing that kids just sit down there. Ironicly, he failed to realize that a lot of them probably couldn't read.

Here's where it starts to get weird, as if this situation wasn't weird enough. A few days after the thousand dollar reward was posted some lanky fuck with the initials AB called in and an arrest was made. The police arrested a 24 year-old kid on June 29. They charged him with felony animal cruelty. Every kid who goes to a party in Honeoye knew the kid as a pretty laid back kid who's pretty much friends with everyone. Which was why people were kinda surprised with the allegations.

One week passed and people started to forget about the whole stupid situation. Until another news report came out announcing the arrests of three accomplises. More Honeoye locals: [names removed because it's really not that important].

All four defendants were scheduled to return to Town Court on July18, and it is said to be possible that there still could be one or two more arrests. Which means parties at the Hole are gonna be a hell of a lot smaller. What a shame. Details about what they all did to the cat came to the surface. It is known that, among other things, they threw the cat out of the car while going something like 75mph. I'm gonna go ahead and say that shaved a couple years off from 9 right there.

Ok so what have we learned from this screwed up scenario? Well mostly that the citizens of Honeoye can turn their backs on anything remotely constructive, but when someone harrasses a cat, there will be hell to pay.

As a final note to this story, a couple of the kids ended up serving a few months. One now goes by the name "Curiosity". I'll let you fill in the rest of that joke.
